A Brief History of The Goldendoodle |
In the late 1980's in Australia, efforts to develop a very special new breed of dog took place. The original goal was a non-shedding dog with a temperament suitable for service training to aid the handicapped. The Labradoodle is that dog! The original cross breeding program involved the AKC Labrador with an AKC Standard Poodle. Since then a crossbreed line of AKC Golden Retrievers with AKC Poodles has also been successfully developed. Selective crossbreeding is recognized as the most advantageous way of combining the best characteristics of a particular breed with another compatible breed. This careful crossbreeding resulted in dogs that are extremely intelligent, easily trainable, and affectionate. The doodle coat also contributes to a lower level of allergens in addition to it being low to non-shedding. Differences in the BreedsThe Australian Labradoodle is a highly intelligent, fun loving, yet calm and often comical companion. It also excels as a service dog. The coat varies in color and degrees of texture. It is recognized for its good healthy and stamina. The Goldendoodle is also a hybrid dog produced by breeding a Golden Retriever with a Poodle. The Goldendoodle has also proven to be a very intelligent and trainable family companion. Their coat, which often come in a abundance of colors, is often longer than a Labradoodle, softer in texture and can be either straight, wavy or even have a loose curl. Both breeds produce truly fantastic pets and make excellent family companions! Goldendooldle Breed Status
The first generation (F1) Goldendoodle is the product of a Poodle crossed with a Golden Retriever. Most first generation Goldendoodles shed lightly. Some can have moderate shedding. F1 Goldendoodles are compatible for most families with MILD allergies. They have straight to loose wavy gorgeous coats.
The backcross (F1B) Goldendoodle is produced by crossing a F1 Goldendoodle with a Poodle. F1B Goldendoodles will have a higher success rate for non-shedding, and are recommended for families with moderate to severe allergies.
